10:00- 12:00 – PREVENT and Engaging Communities workshop

This workshop aims to help build more integrated communities and create the conditions for everyone to live and work successfully alongside each other. It will be in two parts – one  half focuses on civic participation and how to engage all members of the community.

The other half is a ‘PREVENT’ workshop, which is part of the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy to stop people being drawn towards terrorism or supporting terrorism.

The PREVENT session aims to give frontline staff, voluntary workers and key people in the community an understanding of PREVENT, how it works and an idea of the important role that they play in identifying individuals who might be vulnerable or susceptible to extreme ideologies. This may involve supporting individuals who may be vulnerable to extreme ideologies and re-directing them as opposed to criminalising them.
