Bookings are now open for the 2015 Archaeology Day organised by the Society for Lincolnshire History and Archaeology.
The theme for this year is Art and Archaeology and this popular full day event will take place in Lincoln on Saturday 17th October at The Collection, located in the heart of the city and easily accessible by train and car.
Several talks on this inspirational theme have been planned and include the following, ‘Hidden Beasts in Anglo-Saxon Art’, presented by Dr Kevin Leahy ‘Samuel Lysons and the depiction of Roman mosaics’ presented by Dr Sarah Scott, and ‘Encounters with the Exotic: Artistic Highlights from the Portable Antiquities Scheme’ will be presented by Adam Daubney.
Migration period Art will be explored by Dr Toby Martin and Antony Lee from The Collection will give a presentation entitled ‘Resurrecting the Bull: A new marble statuette from Lincoln and its resurrection’. Dr Frances Pritchard will speak on the topic of Textiles from Egypt in the collection of the Whitworth and there will also be a presentation about the East End of Lincoln Cathedral by Stuart Harrison.
The event will take place at The Collection, Danes Terrace, Lincoln LN2 1LP and will run from 9.30am- 4.30pm. The cost of the day including a buffet lunch and tea and coffee will be £30.00 for members of the Society and £35.00 for non-members.
