Sew the Needle Written Word – April 18th 2015
In this exciting new workshop you will learn how to add letters and text to your quilting. You will be taught how to use your sewing machine needle to stitch words and sentences using cursive letters, capital letters and block letters. The workshop will allow you plenty of time to practise and pick up lots of tips to enable you to succeed at home. You will need to bring your own sewing machine which must have a darning foot or free machine quilting foot.
This workshop takes place from 10:00am to 4:00pm and costs £50
From Plant to Print – June 20th 2015
In this workshop you will use the heritage natural plants of woad and weld. Both have been used to dye fibres for over 10,000 years. From these two plants you will get a range of colours from inky dark blues through to slate grey, vivid yellow through to soft buttermilk yellow. You will also combine them to make Lincoln Green; this colour was first documented in 1560 and made famous by the legend of Robin Hood. You will be using these colours in a contemporary way mixed with a textile medium and be taught how to apply them in a variety of ways to allow you to explore different printing techniques. You will be able to work in an abstract or representational way and start to stitch into one of you fabrics in the workshop.
This workshop is from 10:00am to 4:00pm and costs £60
Woad Weekend – Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th June 2015
You are invited to spend a creative weekend learning how to dye with the heritage natural plants of woad and weld to create a range of fresh blues and yellows. Woad is a plant that has been used for thousands of years and was used to colour blue threads in the Bayeux Tapestry. One day one you will begin by learning how to make up your own woad vat in which to dye your fabric and threads. You will be shown how to use a fast sewing machine piecing technique to join a range of fabrics including cottons, silks and linens before they are dyed. On day two you will make a bag or small quilt from your woad dyed fabrics and dye more threads which will be used to stitch into your fabrics.
This workshop is suitable for all levels. All fabrics threads and dyes are provided. Both days will last from 10:00am to 4:00pm and the price is £125.00
Natural Dyeing Weekend – Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th September 2015
This creative weekend will introduce you to the delights of dyeing with natural plants. You will discover the fascinating results that can be achieved through natures store cupboard. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those more experienced in dyeing fabrics.
This workshop is suitable for all levels. All Fabrics, dyes and dye chemicals are provided. Both days will last from 10am – 4pm and the price is £125
