Two new and exciting interactive cross-curricular workshops for KS1 and KS2 pupils are now on offer at the Cottage Museum in Woodhall Spa. ‘Toys and Games Past and Present’ offers pupils the stimulating opportunity to learn about the Victorian and Edwardian children who actually lived in the Museum, which is housed in our unique Victorian bungalow. The workshop includes looking at the types of toys and games Effie, Cedric and others may have played with, and comparing them with modern toys.
Pupils can enjoy dressing as a Victorian, play with toys and games, join in a singing game, listen to stories about the donkeys at Woodhall Spa and enjoy making a simple Victorian game or toy which the children can take back to school.
‘Shops and Shopping Past and Present’ offers the chance to use photographs taken by John Wield who lived in the bungalow, and other forms of evidence to explore the differences between shops and shopping in Woodhall Spa in Victorian and Edwardian times and the present. Pupils can have fun dressing in Victorian costume ready to visit the grocer’s shop, displayed with authentic goods, and enter the challenge of ‘shopping’ with pre-decimal currency. The session will include weighing activities and investigating the colourful world of brand names, packaging and advertising.
The sessions last for two hours and are facilitated. The cost is £2.50 for each pupil.
