Roman Activity Day 13th July 2014

SUNDAY 13TH July 10.00am to 4.00 pm

At ‘the Venue’, Grantham road, Navenby LN5 0JJ

Entry is free. Refreshments available.

This will be an exciting and informative fun filled day out for all. Come and see how the Romans lived in Navenby with plenty of ‘hands on’ activities to discover what life was like around the Roman settlement alongside Ermine Street.

At 10.00am the first our first coin will be struck by the young winner of the design competition.

See the Roman Legion as they arrive at the Venue Arena at 1015 am.
11.00 am Presentation of prizes to the winners of our Coin and Poster competitions.

Finds from Highfields Orchard excavation.
Allen Archaeology Ltd with finds from recent excavations and photogrammetry images of objects discovered at Highfields Orchard.
Grantham Archaeology Group finds.

Bishop Grosseteste University finds ‘excavate a skeleton’.
Wattle and daub demo with “hands on” fun activity with Chris.
Bead work and coiled pots with Rosie and Glen.
Get in a twist with Jessica’s willow weaving.

Visit the Roman camp; see demonstrations including cooking and take part in playing Roman games.
Watch flying demonstrations and take part in bird of prey activities with expert Phil.

‘Find the Queen’ with Ann and John, Lincolnshire Bee Society.
Try your hand at metal detecting with Ron from the Lincolnshire Metal Detecting Society.

Watch Andrew, the Lincolnshire Thatcher, demonstrate his craft.
See the chips fly as Rob squares the round.
Conserve the past. Create your own mosaic.
