Community conservation day, June 24th

A one-day conference and workshop on community-led conservation in archaeology, to be held at the Guildhall Arts Centre in Grantham on June 24th 2014.

The workshop is being organised as a joint event with the Council for British Archaeology (CBA) and the University of York, and will bring together a wide range of experience and advice from key organisations involved in the community-led conservation of different sorts of archaeological sites.

The focus of the workshop will be on sharing experiences and discussing best practice, as well as considering the real difference local groups can make on the protection and conservation of our important archaeological heritage. The programme will include sessions on built heritage, industrial sites and earthworks and monuments, with presentations and discussion session led by a range of national, regional and local organisations, including the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Buildings (SPAB), Adopt-A-Monument (Archaeology Scotland), the Friends of Ancient Monument Project (CBA Wessex), Heritage Lincolnshire, the friends of Chainbridge Forge, and others.
